David Cook was back in Oregon this last weekend to rock the Oregon State Fair. Before we sat down to chat, he sent a band mate on an elephant ear run (after all, a man’s gotta have priorities)
I hoped to stretch things out long enough to share in the deep fried dough goodness, but I think the guy got lost…..probably ended up at a salsa-making demonstration or free hand massage booth….anyway…..here’s the convo! We talked about….how he feels about being “cougar bait”….his ideal first date….how his brother’s passing has changed how he approaches life…..what he considers to be the best invention ever….and more!

  1. Sheryl,
GREAT interview! You asked questions I hadn’t heard in previous interviews… great flow to it, too…

Yes, he’s right about the Crash Kings! I LOVED them when they opened at CalExpo…

I gifted him a stocking back in May of 2008… before he won AI… and he never got it… I wonder if it’ll ever show up… at least I took a pic of it before I mailed it to him, though.

Thanx for sharing the interview, Sheryl! It rawked!

  3. Really good interview Sheryl! I saw David Cook’s show at the fair and have to admit I was impressed. My wife is a big American Idol fan but I’ve never paid much attention to the show. But Cook is really very talented. Great voice, his band is tight, and he puts on a really fun, high-energy rock show. Seems like a smart and interesting guy from your interview as well. I think I may have become a fan now (don’t tell my wife!).

  5. This was a WONDERFUL interview. Congrats on not asking the same old stale crap and getting him to open up more and be more of himself.

  10. Wow. I just wanted to thank you, Sheryl, for a fantastic interview with Mr. Cook. Absolutely one of the best radio interviews I’ve heard (and I’ve heard, um…a few), with wide-ranging questions and a fun yet respectful approach. Awesome. I’ll definitely be checking out some more of your artist interviews. Thanks again!

  11. Sheryl: I very much enjoyed the interview.

Funny, but also some good serious questions in there. From elephant ears to rock star moments to, well, mortality. Good stuff.

You also asked stuff that other interviewers had not asked before! Good job. Thanks!

  12. Great interview! I’m sure David was happy with it too instead of the same questions that he is asked over and over.
I’m glad that he didn’t have the answer to his favorite perfume – we’d all be wearing it! LOL.

  17. Sheryl, I have read, listened to, and watched countless interviews with David over this past year. Yours is right up there with the best! You asked thought-provoking questions and even us die-hard fans learned something new about Dave. Thank you and I wish you the best of luck in your career. You have a gift and I hope your boss appreciates your talent.

  18. Wow, Thanks for all of the great feedback everyone. I really enjoyed talking to David! He seems to be a very genuine person…and a very funny one, too. If I have some time this next week, I will edit and post the interview with him from the American Idols tour last year. He had some really interesting things to say in that one, too. Thanks again for checking out the interview and for posting such nice comments!

  20. Sheryl, thank you so much for such an entertaining interview with David Cook. It was fun, informative and where need be, sensitive and I for one, appreciated that. It’s nice to hear an intelligent interview that’s enjoyable and not so embarrassingly inane, it make you feel for the person being interviewed. Well done!

  24. This may be the best interview I’ve ever heard with David. You did a fantastic job. You obviously knew what you were talking about and that alone is rare among people who interview him. You were relaxed and easy to listen to and brought out his sense of humor. I felt like he was very relaxed during the interview and I think he was undoubtedly appreciative that you asked new questions rather than the same old crap he gets all the time. I am so disgusted with most of the people who interview him because they clearly do not know anything about him, and don’t care that they are asking the same questions he has already answered over and over and over! Those kinds of interviews make for boring listening and I know he has better things to do with his time. So, thank you Sheryl! This is delightful! My only complaint is that this is not on youtube so I can’t download it. I could listen to this at least 100 times.
