Check out this little critter that attached himself to a deep sea submarine. It is a giant isopod that measures almost three feet long! And this “sea bug” is a relative to the common household pest the Roly Poly. Happy swimming!

Another misty evening in downtown Portland Oregon. But this was unlike any regular night filled with mist. There was a certain vibe in the air; It was concert night. And it was a big one! John Mayers’ first concert in Portland since gaining super stardom promoting his newest album “Battle Studies” and at a packed Rose Garden, he lived up to all the expectations any great musician aspires to reach.

Backstage was fun. Me and my guest (Mr. Midas) waited backstage for Mayer to come around and briefly talk to us. Everyone there like myself was the winner of a contest of some sort. The funny part about it was there was a few winners from competing radio stations, but I seemed to be the only one with front row tickets! That drew lots of certain attention which added to my already high excitement level. (As well as shameless plugs)

I think one of the most important things when you’re a fan of someone is that if you ever get a chance to meet one of your favorite musicians, artist, movie stars etc, is that you hope that they will at least be nice. No one wants to find out that one of their favorite people on the planet is a dooche. In this case I was well pleased. Mayer walked in ready and seemed excited to meet some of his adoring fans, and I was first on the list. We immediately met up and he asked me, “Whats your name?” We were all given photos that he was able to sign which was really cool. I quickly tried to interject a question after I answered with a still dumbfounded response. “Any advice for up and coming musicians?” “Just keep doing it.” He replied which is good advice to anyone who is doing anything that they love. Then he said, “I’m gonna write your advice on here and put my name on it.” He wrote, “To Kevin you’re already doing it” I thought it was nice that he put some extra thought into an autograph. I was well pleased shook his hand wished him good luck and told him I’d be in the front row watching. I was then escorted to my amazing front row seats with a direct eagle eyes view to all of the action that would soon follow.

The concert started with a giant white net covering the front of the stage as they came out Mayer, and his tight band that consisted of some great musicians (David Ryan Harris, Robbie Macintosh on guitars and Steve Jordan on drums) broke out into track one side one on the new “Battle Studies” album “Heartbreak Warfare” he seemed to be enjoying himself early on as the band didn’t even pause when they went right into “Good Love Is On The Way”. He switched guitars then jammed with the band for a few bars before going into a great version of “Vultures”. He then proceeded to continue for the next 2 hours to absolutely dominate the set. Mixing it up with some older songs from the first and second albums, but still being true to some of his best work with “Continuum” while still doing a great job in promoting the new stuff on “Battle Studies”.

The whole show was absolutely amazing and some of my personal favorite high points were: The 7th song on the set was a newer track “Assassins” which he came out from the back holding the microphone and only singing for a bit and was actually DIRECTLY in front of me during this, then at the end the band broke it down and turned it into a nice rock jam which was just a great band flowing well. Everyone in the packed Rose Garden was really feeling the music by this point. Steve Jordan then began to take command with a drum solo for the next 6mins which was really something to watch and people seemed to really enjoy. He also covered Bill Withers “Ain’t No Sunshine” which was an absolute show stopper. Mayer really got down on some guitar solos, and really covered a classic tune well with his own style of blues added to it. After a track on his 2nd album (“Bigger Than My Body”) he then played a solo acoustic set which was simply great. He started off with “Stop This Train” then proceeded to play “All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye” “War Of My Life” then capoed up quickly for some old favorites “3X5″ and “Comfortable” He told us that he “Wanted to mix it up a little tonight” and felt he had to “play from the heart and had to get it out with the acoustic” No one seemed to mind. He then went into a great great version of “Who Says” which he kindly asked everyone to help him sing. All alone and acoustic. Like I said, simply great.

He then came out with a quick encore to close out the show to the fans at the Rose Garden who included myself who wouldn’t stop screaming for him to come back and give us more music. He thanked his fans a few more times before he played “Half Of My Heart”. He thanked us all some more and told us that he “Understands its more than just a ticket” and “No matter what you’re going through with whoever it may be girlfriend/boyfriend/friend/boss and however people beat you down you say you can beat me up as much as you’d like, and you look at that ticket and you say but I’m going to the Mayer concert tonight!”. Well said John well said. He finished it off with a great version of “Belief” which again he was DIRECTLY in front of me during the guitar solo! A great great amazing concert to say the least and I speak freely for the thousands and thousands in attendance when I say it’s a show we will not soon forget.

Thanks to Nelson and Terry and Stacey and everyone at 105.1 The Buzz for being so nice and generous and giving me an opportunity to go to an amazing concert and listen to a great show and meet one of my favorite artist while making competing radio stations fans jealous that our prizes are totally better!

Thank you again, to Legend Homes, for letting me test drive one of their beautiful EarthSmart homes at Edgewater at the Tualatin! We wrapped up Saturday night with a house party! Artemis Catering worked their culinary magic with local, organic ingredients (yum!)….Stoller Winery provided us with eco-friendly vino…..and Jim Chapman, the President, of Legend Homes shared the whole story of why Legend decided to build these amazing homes. When you don’t build homes for a living, you don’t realize all of the little details and decisions that go into the house. These little decisions can either cost or save you big $$$$ down the road in your home. Jim explained all those details to us…..things like window placement to take advantage of the natural light outside (and to make you more comfortable in your home)….low flow water fixtures to save resources and save money…..special insulation that is blown into every nook and crevice to give you a nice airtight seal against heat and energy loss…..energy saving appliances…..solar panels to provide up to 1/3 of your own energy…..water-saving landscaping…..they thought of EVERYTHING! It’s not just talk, either. Legend Homes guarantees that you won’t pay more than 58 bucks a month for energy. Jim explains in the video below.

If you think about things like saving our Earth’s resources….and of course, about saving your own money, you should really talk to Legend Homes about these EarthSmart Homes and Edgewater at the Tualatin. Jim and the rest of the Legend Homes folks are good people and they care about the same things you do. Here’s a link….tell them you want more info about the $58 dollar guarantee I told you about!

Several news outlets have already written obituarys for Lindsay Lohan “just in case”.  Sources say, “they are in the business of breaking news fast and any prepartion that can be done ahead of time is them just simply doing their jobs.  We all scrambled when Brittany Murphy and Heath Ledger died and don’t want that to happen again.”

As if to prove them wrong, Linds left a nightclub Saturday walking TOTALLY straight with this white powdery stuff on her feet.  My money says it’s not cocaine.  Because Lindsay is many things but wasteful isn’t one of them.
